Feature Friday: Weight Loss Recap

Hey guys!

I have officially lost 8 pounds! That is 2 pounds away from my goal! I’ve been wanted to write a post on my weight loss for a while now, but honestly haven’t had the time until now, whew! I am so excited to share more in-depth details on what I have been up to!

How I started:

It all started at the end of summer when I realized that I did not lose the weight I planned on losing that summer. In fact, I put on a few pounds! It was time to make small changes in my diet.

In the beginning:

I was not seeing results. I cut back on nearly all of my favorite “bad” foods (cookies, brownies, chips & salsa, deep-fried things…) and tried replacing them with “better” foods. This worked for a while but it just wasn’t enough. I began going to the gym daily for that extra push and still didn’t see the results I wanted. Slowly but surly I was losing about a half pound a week.

What I did at the gym:

  • Cardio pretty much everyday
  • Ab workouts twice a week
  • Zumba 🙂

How  I “count calories”:

From what I have learned, they key to counting calories is to keep it as general as possible meaning, DO NOT COUNT EVERY FREAKING CALORIE YOU EAT. That will just make you crazy. Instead, I keep a journal (or sometimes I just make a mental note) with a general guess on my meals. I will set a limit of how many calories I can consume and then I’ll try to follow it. Some meals I’ll go over the calorie limit but that’s okay. I think it’s more important to acknowledge the amount of calories that are in your diet.

What I’ve learned about weight loss:

  • Exercising everyday can actually be fun
  • Take exercise classes that you enjoy
  • Count calories (as mentioned above)
  • Be patient, it may take time but it is totally worth the weight wait! 😛

I have learned so much over the past few months that I am so thankful for. Obvisously, I thank you guys for always encouraging me to try harder and be my best or maybe even encouraging me to let go sometimes and be patient. Either way, I am thankful! 😀

How are you?

1. Favourite cartoon character: 

Not really a big cartoon person these days, but growing up I like The Rugrats. Does that count? 😉

2. Favourite thing to photograph:

Food, duh. Just kidding, I actually never used to photograph food and I feel like I’m still learning a lot from it. Anything in nature is my thing to photograph such as birds, trees, flowers, water, you name it. Big on landscapes though:

3. Favourite thing to Cook:

Breakfast. Pancakes, oatmeal, smoothies, muffins, homemade yogurt, and all the other good stuff!

4. Favourite way to Exercise:

Zumba!!!! Zumba Fitness has taught me a lot about my body. We work different parts of the body each class and I understand what my body likes (fast cardio) and what it doesn’t (swats).

5. Favourite Movies:

6. Clothing:

Yoga pants is where it’s at. And not the tight kind that give you a camel toe, seriously, cover that up!

7. Flower:

Sunflower.

Mine are just babies right now!

8. Breakfast:

I love pancakes and I love green smoothies! Maybe I should try green pancakes? 😉

9. Book:

Any cook book  or vegan diet book really.I lovelovelove The Kind Life, Crazy Sexy Diet, and Skinny Bitch. I think we should all get together for coffee…I mean, tea…. and talk about food and stuff.

We would invite Tal too! I met Rory from Skinny Bitch before also but, did not get a picture with her. 😦

10. What is your least favorite food?

Meat? Hahah. Sometimes I try so hard to think of a veggie that I do not like, but I love them all. I don’t like cucumber but I love it in juice and pickled. I don’t like beets but, I like them pickled too. I’m not a huge fan of sprouts but I love sprouting them myself. I guess something I really hate is cilantro. Yuck.

Good-Bye Winter Diet

& hello summer!
Oh my goodness, did I miss a WIAW post? Whoops! It’s been pretty busy around here. Forgive me?

I probably wont be doing much posting for the next few days due to the Farmer’s Market (FM) craziness.

I have been keeping up with my exercises though!

  • Sunday: 3 mile walk/jog outdoors
  • Monday: 4 mile nature walk
  • Tuesday: Pi/yo, 2 1/2 mile fast walk on tred.
  • Wednesday: Slow 2 mile nature walk, 1 hour Zumba
  • Thursday: Probably nothing. Early day at school right now then straight to work afterwards.

Lots of cardio so far this week! I guess I was just in that kind of mood. I think this is good for me though due to that winter weight gain! After work last night, I came home and tried on my jean shorts from last summer and YIKES! Not happening anytime soon! I wear sweat pants literally everyday, so trying on jeans (especially shorts!) was a somewhat of a breakthrough. Despite the muffin top, I think my weight should be back on track in a few weeks. Mainly because I eat A LOT better in the warmer months with all the fresh produce available and the fun warm weather activities.

See? A salad! I’m getting there. Just don’t judge me for that bag of PB pretzels i ate right after this!

Hii bloggins!

Did you have a good first day of May?

I know I did. You know why? Cause mine was filled with lots of food, duh!

Quinoa with sun-dried tomatoes and basil, black bean burgers, Peanut Butter Cookies

Because Megan reminded me!

  1. Save MONEY. On food, gas, and other mindless spendings. Even though I’m a major tight-wad, my savings are getting extremely low. My savings are basically for when I decide to transfer to a better college I would have to stress about mu-lah so much. Ya digg?
  2. Don’t over-eat on the sweets, nuff said.
  3. Work on them ABS 3 times a week! I love working out my abs, I know, I’m weird. Something about sore abs makes me feel like a million bucks.
  4. Run outside for 3 miles.
  5. Put school first. This 8 week semester just might kick my butt.

 What are your goals for the month/summer?

Teaching Zumba this morning went pretty well. I messed up a few times but, we just laughed about it. I couldn’t practice my routine at home because my CD wouldn’t play in my CD player! They said I did really good though. I’m so lucky to have such a supportive class! Also, I’m realizing how hard it is to yell out directions and shake my butt at the same time! I don’t like it when Zumba instructors don’t yell out what’s coming next, it’s quite frustrating!

A Day in the Life

Hello friends 🙂

I haven’t been posting a lot of meals lately. I’m a busy woman! But, I will let you in on today’s food I brought to work! Today I work from 7-3, so I like to bring a large snack like (a whole tub of) fruit or soy yogurt and granola which I usually eat around 10AM, because my break usually isn’t until about noon. On days like this, I’m not usually extremely hungry at 6:30AM so I’ll have toast with PB or a date bar before I leave. Sometimes, I even bring in overnight oats. So, yes, by 10AM I’m starving.

Green tub- Roasted veggies and potatoes with a falafel.
White tub- FRUIT MESS. Plum, pear, kiwi.
Middle tub- Homemade hummus.
Plastic bag- Chocolate chocolate chip cookie (the ones I tweeted about that I added too much liquid too, turned out tasting like brownies! WIN).
& Water. I get free water bottles at work but I feel bad for using bottled water sometimes :/

Somedays, I pack a lunch and dinner if I’m doing a work & school combo.

Oh, and yesterday my Zumba instructor was sick SO guess who got to teach for the first time? MEEE! It was so much fun! I loved it. I wasn’t even that nervous! Everyone was so sad that Zumba was cancelled then, when I asked if they wanted me to teach, they all started screaming and jumping around! It was so cute! I love them. I  messed up a few times but I have a feeling that nobody noticed!

WIAW week #13

Okay, so Chicago’s Subway seriously does have a falafel sub, you guys weren’t kidding!

I vote on somebody buying me that SWEET “falafel sandwich” T-shirt, I’d wear it.

I would really like to know why it’s just fancy vegan-friendly cities like Chicago that get falafel at Subway. Maybe that’s why Chicago is a high demand city for vegan food, cause people eat these falafel subs and turn vegan. 😉

I also hear that Chipotle in Los Angeles offers a vegan “chicken” burritos. That’s great, but honestly, I love Chipotle so much, vegan “chicken” is unnecessary. Give me those extra beans! 😉 The closest Chipotle around is an hour away from me. Needless to say, I went there yesterday! 🙂

I also want to thank each and every one of you who left awesome advice on this post. My friend was really flattered by all the helpful comments, I’ll keep you updated on what she decides to do!

 Hey it’s Wednesday!

That means… NEXT WEEK IS MY LAST WEEK OF CLASSES! You know what that means, in eight more weeks it will be hello summer. Which means hello full-time job and nice pay checks! Finally. I hate being poor! In other news, I will be teaching Zumba in 10 days! I better get practicing. Oh, and studying for Finals?

How sweet, I got this from Allison @ Food For Healing

Seven Facts about myself:

  1. Current obsession: coconut yogurt. I’ve always loved it but I seriously can’t get enough lately! Perfect with frozen strawberries. Fro-yo anyone?
  2. I made peanut butter blondies on Wednesday and already ate 4… it’s Thursday night, I need to stop this! :0
  3. I cannot stop listening to Zumba Fitness music. Currently listening to: Que Te Pica.
  4. I usually prefer 90s alternative rock…. big jump, huh?
  5. For some reason I’ve always been pressured to be THE BEST. Not by my parents or anyone else, just me. I hate it. Everything I’ve always wanted to do, I couldn’t finish cause I wasn’t “the best“. Example: not being a Zumba Instructor because I’m “not good enough” yet. :/
  6. I never thought I would go to college. I HATED high school that much. (College is way different btw) 😉
  7. I hardly ever weigh myself. Who cares about how many exact pounds you weigh? It’s how you feel,  m a n .
