Feature Friday: Weight Loss Recap

2 Dec

Hey guys!

I have officially lost 8 pounds! That is 2 pounds away from my goal! I’ve been wanted to write a post on my weight loss for a while now, but honestly haven’t had the time until now, whew! I am so excited to share more in-depth details on what I have been up to!

How I started:

It all started at the end of summer when I realized that I did not lose the weight I planned on losing that summer. In fact, I put on a few pounds! It was time to make small changes in my diet.

In the beginning:

I was not seeing results. I cut back on nearly all of my favorite “bad” foods (cookies, brownies, chips & salsa, deep-fried things…) and tried replacing them with “better” foods. This worked for a while but it just wasn’t enough. I began going to the gym daily for that extra push and still didn’t see the results I wanted. Slowly but surly I was losing about a half pound a week.

What I did at the gym:

  • Cardio pretty much everyday
  • Ab workouts twice a week
  • Zumba 🙂

How  I “count calories”:

From what I have learned, they key to counting calories is to keep it as general as possible meaning, DO NOT COUNT EVERY FREAKING CALORIE YOU EAT. That will just make you crazy. Instead, I keep a journal (or sometimes I just make a mental note) with a general guess on my meals. I will set a limit of how many calories I can consume and then I’ll try to follow it. Some meals I’ll go over the calorie limit but that’s okay. I think it’s more important to acknowledge the amount of calories that are in your diet.

What I’ve learned about weight loss:

  • Exercising everyday can actually be fun
  • Take exercise classes that you enjoy
  • Count calories (as mentioned above)
  • Be patient, it may take time but it is totally worth the weight wait! 😛

I have learned so much over the past few months that I am so thankful for. Obvisously, I thank you guys for always encouraging me to try harder and be my best or maybe even encouraging me to let go sometimes and be patient. Either way, I am thankful! 😀

Is there anything you could add to these lists??

Good-Bye Winter Diet

12 May
& hello summer!
Oh my goodness, did I miss a WIAW post? Whoops! It’s been pretty busy around here. Forgive me?

I probably wont be doing much posting for the next few days due to the Farmer’s Market (FM) craziness.

I have been keeping up with my exercises though!

  • Sunday: 3 mile walk/jog outdoors
  • Monday: 4 mile nature walk
  • Tuesday: Pi/yo, 2 1/2 mile fast walk on tred.
  • Wednesday: Slow 2 mile nature walk, 1 hour Zumba
  • Thursday: Probably nothing. Early day at school right now then straight to work afterwards.

Lots of cardio so far this week! I guess I was just in that kind of mood. I think this is good for me though due to that winter weight gain! After work last night, I came home and tried on my jean shorts from last summer and YIKES! Not happening anytime soon! I wear sweat pants literally everyday, so trying on jeans (especially shorts!) was a somewhat of a breakthrough. Despite the muffin top, I think my weight should be back on track in a few weeks. Mainly because I eat A LOT better in the warmer months with all the fresh produce available and the fun warm weather activities.

See? A salad! I’m getting there. Just don’t judge me for that bag of PB pretzels i ate right after this!

What are some of your personal tips on getting (back) into shape?

Have a good weekend!

Healthy is here to STAY.

1 Apr

First: My posts are still being posted on different days that I actually post them on. My last post was only pushed back by a day so it’s not completely lost. Is anyone else having this problem?

Second: Let’s forget my Sugar-Free challenge. Overall, I would say I’m a pretty healthy eater. However, I do agree that I have been eating too much sugar lately and it has been effecting me. I have actually been baking with white sugar… GASP! That stuff is no good. Why have I been doing this? Lately I have been obsessed with making vegan desserts taste “good” (you know, like, “normal” as some people would say because they think vegan/healthy food is gross…) so I been putting in white flour, white sugar, and all the members of that nasty un-nutritional family. But you know what? I love healthy food! Why waste my time proving to people who vegan food taste “good” when healthy vegan food just as good and doesn’t leave you with nasty sugar hangovers? Am I right??? So yes, I will be going back to my normal baking style (mostly whole wheat or gluten-free flours with natural sweeteners like agave and stevia) but I will occasionally enjoy my coconut yogurt with a little added sugar, that’s okay. I don’t want to get sugar-free obsessed right now but I do plan on a challenge in the near future! Plus, I have a lot of food that needs to be eaten up this week! 😛

Third: Holy cow. I just found a new obsession.

Speaking of wheat flour and stevia….

Kat’s Chocolate Chip Pumpkin cookies

These cookies are awesome Kat! They are so soft, almost like a muffin. They actually remind me of those Pumpkin Pancakes I was obsessed with this last fall. And guess what? I ate one with my breakfast. IN YO FACE WHITE SUGA! (White sugar in the AM gives me long-lasting head aches…)

Fourth: I forgot how much I LOVE carrot apple juice. Ohhh my. Can I have this everyday?

& My first Zumba Training session is today, I’m super excited. Remember how I told you that I was taking over one class? Well, I lied. IT’S TWO CLASSES. 🙂

I hope everybody has a great weekend!

Pump it.

29 Mar

Hi guys, Happy Tuesday! Today’s post if filled with random things- I love it! But first…

Look who’s getting muscles…

Ok, so, you still can’t really see them but they are there, I promise! My whole life I have had thee weakest arms, I swear. I don’t even like working out my arms because it reminds me how weak I am. So, this is impressive for just doing Zumba classes the last 2-3 months without any strength training. I honestly do believe that Zumba Fitness is definitely working those delts! Check out those shoulders! Woowoo. 😉

Spring time is pretty much here and it’s time to get out of this nasty “Zumba only” workout routine because it’s time to get strong and PUMP IT.

But while we are speaking of ZUMBA,

On May 2nd I will be teaching a Zumba class! My instructor will be gone that day so I was nominated to take over the class! How exciting. I’m really looking forward to this!!! 🙂

Let’s celebrate with some Edamame Hummus!

  • 14 oz frozen edamame, thawed
  • 3 T Tahini
  • 1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 2-3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 1 t ground cumin
  • 1-2 t sea salt
  • 1/3 cup water to smooth
  • olive oil, to smooth

& B l e n d it b a b y !

Perfect in a wrap and great for dippage (as shown above). I really wanted to try this because I don’t know about you but, chickpeas make me extremely gasy! I could never give up hummus. Ever… just sayin’. But the good news is that 1 cup of edamame packs in 17 grams of protein compared to chickpea’s 15 grams. Plus, edamame has about 100 less calories per 1 cup serving than chickpeas. So go make this!

!!!Review!!!

A few weeks ago, 18 Rabbits sent a few samples of the new Bunny Bar for me to review. Seriously, I can’t find this bar anywhere! I was so excited to finally try it.

The 18 Rabbits Bunny Bar is an all organic granola bar that is available in the following flavors:

  • Squeaky Cheeky Choco Cherry
  • Mini Merry Mango Strawberry
  • Rocco Choco Banana
  • Deedee Dot Cherry Apricot

My favorite?

This was a hard one because they are all so good but I would go with…

(Source)

They bars are very hearty and only contain about 120 calories and 8 grams of sugar! Besides being the cutest bars ever, I loved how chewy they were. I would definitely buy these. I’ll probably have to buy them online! 😉

Now, time to go study for my psych exam! This should be fun. Thank you reading and I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Peanut Head

21 Mar

Thank you for all of the lovely comments about my new kittens! No, I still do not have names for them. It is so hard naming two kitties because you want the names to sound cute together! I wanted to name the girl “Peanut” cause she has a peanut head. 🙂 But, we wanted to boy kitten to be Leo but Peanut and Leo sounds really odd together. And no, we are not going to name them peanut and butter! 😉 Other names we thought of: Chloe, Sam, Molly, Gilbert

We are open to suggestions! 😀

This morning was Zumba-rific!

Like every Monday morning at 6:30AM! I wish my knee would start feeling better though. :/ I’m still debating on getting certified to teach but not if my joints keep acting up like this.

After Zumba I didn’t go for coffee with the Zumba girls cause I had a stupid paper to finish. Seriously, who waits to finish a paper on the day that it is due! Oh wait- I do.

Today’s eats:

Fried polenta

More asparagus soup

 Prana bar! Coconut Acai.

>>>REVIEW:

Prana Bars & Boomi Bars

Prana Bars are all vegan, gluten and soy free snack bars that are all natural and mostly raw. Some flavors include:

  • Coconut Acai
  • Blueberry Coconut
  • Mango Maca
  • Cashew Almond
  • Apricot Goji
  • Pear Ginseng
  • Apple Pie
  • Apricot Pumpkin

I have not tried all of these flavors yet but from what I’ve tried… I LOVE THEM! So far my favorite is Coconut Acai.

I like these bars because they don’t contain all of those scary ingredients some other snack bars have! Prana Bars are all natural with no added sugar. I like to eat one at work when I get hungry to keep my tummy full until lunch time. Thank you RAW ENZYME POWER!

Boomi Bars are very similar to the Prana Bar. The Boomi Bars are gooey and crunchy, just the way I like my bars. The first flavor I tried was diffidently an easy choice: Macadamia Paradise. I’m a huge macadamia fan, so I obvious loved this bar. Second place goes to: Maple Pecan! But I love every flavor I tried so far. Although I am not a fan of pistachio, I gave Pistachio Pineapple to my brother! He actually liked it! I was surprised because all he eats is chicken wings and pizza.

Overall, I was very impressed with these bars. 🙂

Random cuteness from the twins:

Miso Lucky

7 Mar

Hi friends!

I’m slowly recovering from a sick-filled weekend which, as you can imagine was NOT very fun! However, if there was a fun part about being sick it would be eating all of the yummy healthy “sick food”:

ASIAN FOOD GALORE!

image

Like Miso soup! Onions, nori, carrots, miso, veggie stock, and tofu. My boyfriend made this for the first time ever and it was perfect. Whenever I make Miso soup it doesn’t turn out this good! He is brilliant, Miso lucky to have a boyfriend so sweet. 😛

image

And he made me homemade sushi…

image

That’s always a win. My roll had green onion, cucumber, avocado, and carrots stuffed inside.

image

On Sunday he made me peanut noodles with mock chicken, can’t wait to eat these left-overs!

I felt sick on Thursday so I left work early and took Friday off. Saturday I had no time to be sick though! I went to work from 6AM – 2PM and then celebrated my friend’s birthday later on. We went to Dave and Buster’s (my first time) and it actually very fun. It’s like an arcade for adults!

(Source)

For dinner, I ordered a Garden Burger which apparently is vegan according to the waiter and some other girl. I am aware that Garden Burger does make a vegan patty so I really hope they didn’t lie to me and just give me the “original” patty.

Sometimes I have a hard time trusting people when it comes to my food. Is it just me though or do you feel that way? I’ve done a few previous posts on eating out while following a vegan diet but I’m still not 100% comfortable with it. You can’t blame me though I’ve had some pretty crazy experiences!

How do you feel about eating out?

This morning I did some Zumba and now I am just going to relax and do some homework until I am 100% better! I kinda feel like baking too. Cookies anyone? 😀

Enjoy your Monday!

To Zumba or Not To Zumba…

12 Feb

I just want to say THANK YOU to all my readers who left me with some support on my last post. This problem has been going on for 6 months now and I really hope that they find out what it is quick! I never thought I’d be discussing my health problems pubicly publicly but you guys made me feel so much better and now I feel silly for keeping it in for so long! It’s common stuff to have those issues!

I’ve been feeling a little better though. I’ve been staying away from the gym and staying away from sitting on hard surfaces, that’s for sure. It’s a good time to catch up on some studying anyway. But who wants to talk about school right now when we can talk about….

SMOOTHIES!

I’ve been digging smoothie lately!!! Yes, in this freezing weather. I know, I’m strange.

I don’t usually post smoothie recipes on the blog because everyone can make a smoothie.

Butttt, I think I might start posting them because I’ve been coming up with some pretty crazy stuff!

Remember my Hempy Mango Smoothies? Yum.

That’s what I’m talking about! What’s your favorite smoothie combo? Mine is raspberries & strawberries with  a n y t h i n g .

& I STILL HAVEN’T TOLD YOU ABOUT MY POSSIBLY LIFE CHANGING DECISION!

I’m sure you are all wondering what the big new is that I wanted to share with you. Well you see, I’m strongly considering becoming a Zumba instructor! I know I’ve only done a handful of classes since I started back up again, but I love it. It not really the dancing that I love, it how much fun and addictive it is! Honestly, I’m always looking forward to my next class.

What’s going on in my head:

PROS:

  • Fun job
  • New & exciting work environment
  • Getting paid to work out
  • Stop working so much at my stupid job!
  • A foot in the door as any future aerobic classes and health club in general 😉

CONS:

  • Certification fee + ZIN monthly membership (from what I understand is going to be like $600 in just the first year, correct me if I’m wrong.)
  • Not a huge pay out and would probably still need my current job
  • Never have been a dancer in my entire life (BUT, like I said, my classes would be more of a fun workout rather then a hardcore dance routine)
  • Not extremely out-going (but I’m getting there too)
  • I do not have a lot of experience
  •

As you can see, I’m T  O  R  N  !

The next time to get certified in March 13th, 4 hours away. (Hotel fee, gas fee, ect…)

Or I could stop being inpatient and hope that something comes around in the summer that is closer? I’m seriously leaning toward this!

What do you think?
