Farmers’ Market RECAP week 3

6 Jun

Hey guys!

We had another AWESOME week at the FM.

I have lots of photo’s to share…

Date ball sign! Which flavor sounds best to you? Last week I sold A LOT of these and this week it was just ok. I might not make more this week, I don’t know yet. I feel like people don’t really appreciate them. I sell them for $1.50 each (for a 1.8 ounce ball… that’s more than a Larabar!) which is actually cheap in my opinion considering the cost of dates and nuts.

First time doing muffins so I only made 6, and sold out quick! (ok, so I ate 3…). Next week I think I’m going to do gluten-free muffins and some mini muffins!

Close up of date balls being melted in the heat. Some people had a problem with me labeling these sugar-free because there is a touch of agave in the ingredients. I told them it’s like eating an apple or a date. If you consider that sugar, I don’t. One man said, “if it’s sweet, it has sugar in it…” Which I completely disagree.

Sample dish! Which one would you try first: regular hummus, roasted red pepper hummus, regular olive tapenade, peppanade (more peppers, less olives) or Loubie Bezit (a middle eastern dish with tomatoes, whole cloves of garlic, and italian green beans).

Lots of shoppers!

Awesome vendor who traded 4 plants for hummus (see below)

Dogs EVERYWHERE! I couldn’t pet ALL OF THEM. I think it is really cool that our FM allows dogs!

Scott holding down the table…

Yummy iced green tea

& more

The plants I mentioned above.

Traded for this baby too! Nice snack.

Yours truly looking extra cheesy…

GRANOLA! Do you like our stickers?!?!?!

This week we were invited to so many different FMs, local events, and other benefits to vendor at. Needless to say, Scott and I are pretty excited.

I had a lot of fun taking pictures! I hope you enjoyed them. 🙂

What are your thoughts on agave? Do you think it is a sugar or would you label it sugar-free?

The only reason I label it sugar-free is because I have seen ingredients that have listed agave but the food was labeled sugar-free.

Wow, everything looks great! The PB Chocolate date ball sounds the best to me. 🙂

I love your signs on the granola!

omgosh so awesome! I would have bought all those PB chocolate date balls in a second! They look great. I wish we had some awesome farmers market like that around us! Ours is small there’s usually only like 8 vendors

The area I live in is seriously BUMPIN when it comes to FMs. I’ve been to one before that had like 3 vendors, it was lame. You should come visit! 😉

That’s weird that people would have issues with your labeling. All those goodies look good, I’d certainly buy something!

  5. Kayla June 6, 2011 at 1:55 pm #

    So cool! Everything looks amazing!

Yes, if something has agave it has added sugar!

    • vegansunshine June 6, 2011 at 2:16 pm #

I guess i’ll take the sign down then, it just really upsets me that different companies say different things. Thanks for the info!

That is awesome! And I love the stickers. I wouldn’t count agave as added sugar.

Wow everything looks amazing! your farmers market looks way bigger than mine.
I’d say yes, agave is added sugar.

I would say “lightly sweetened with agave” personally =) love the logo stickers on the granola and I would totally be beelining for that roasted rep pep hummus tray! ❤ ahhh yum! ❤

if its sweet, it has sugar in it.. seriously, that is the most ridiculous thing i’ve ever heard!
i dont consider agave sugar, i consider it a sweetener.

    • vegansunshine June 6, 2011 at 6:37 pm #

That’s how I fell. So yes it is a sweetener but not sugar!

  11. Tara June 6, 2011 at 5:24 pm #

I would just change it to say “lightly sweetened with agave” or something. I think it’s stupid that people give you trouble about the labeling. It’s probably healthier than whatever they eat anyway!
I would try the maple pecan date balls and the peppanade.

That looks so legit!!! You guys have your very own business! SO cool! And the spirulina date balls sound delicious!!! I love spirulina!!!

  13. Stephanie June 6, 2011 at 10:41 pm #

I’d still consider it sugar free because there isn’t any cane sugar in it, but I can see how people would think sugar free means added sugar free. I don’t agree with those people, though. If you want you could call them fruit and agave sweetened. I doubt anyone would have a problem with that.

  14. IHeartVegetables June 6, 2011 at 11:17 pm #

That looks like so much fun! It’s reminding me that I need to get my butt to the farmers market on saturday mornings instead of sleeping in!!

  15. Rachel (tea and chocolate) June 7, 2011 at 3:57 am #

Ah it’s so cool that you’re doing this! I would buy all of the cherry chocolate chip ones. And the homemade granola too. I would say lightly sweetened with agave too. Though really, people are just being picky, in my opinion.

  16. lactosefreelizzie June 7, 2011 at 2:37 pm #

Agave doesnt count as sugar, it’s just like fruit! I agree with you

    First time to your blog!

First of all, I love that you bake and make things to sell at the Farmers Market! I excpted to simply see a post about what you bought at the farmers market so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw you were doing the selling!

I’d want to grab a hold of one of those muffins.

  18. Kate (What Kate is Cooking) June 8, 2011 at 12:01 am #

Everything looks so tasty! I definitely would buy your goodies 🙂 I like Rachel’s idea of labeling something as lightly sweetened- it wouldn’t matter to me, but some people are particular!

Hi!! Everything looks pretty awesome! I would so eat all of those date balls, they look tasty:) Well, I don´t cosider agave a sugar, I would say it is a healthier alternative to sugar and if you use only a small amount, I don´t see any problem…But I know that for a lot of people, sweet taste = sugar.

  20. owlmazing June 9, 2011 at 10:30 pm #

That looks great! I would totally buy one of those delicious looking date balls…maple pecan first please! 😛
