To all fish eaters:

Global Fish Crisis: UN experts predict that fish will disappear from oceans worldwide by 2050 unless fish farming ends. By Liz Miller If large-scale fish farming continues at its current rate, fish will entirely disappear from the world’s oceans by 2050, according to a report released on Monday by UN officials. The UN Environment Program is currently working on a Green Economy study due in late 2010 that will outline ways to avoid wiping out fish populations worldwide, including slashing fishing fleet subsidies and creating protected zones for fish. In March, a proposed worldwide ban on farming bluefin tuna was shot down at an endangered species conference in Doha, Qatar, after influential Japanese lobbyists rejected the proposal as a solution to the dwindling fish population.

Does this upset you fish eaters? It should. Our world is slowly being destroyed in front of our very own eyes. The thing that scares me the most is that human beings have 100% complete control over this situation yet we do nothing about it.

Do you feel the same way? What do you think the world has in store for us in the next 100 years?

wow, that’s so weird that i read this today. last night we watched “avatar.” it made me think about what we as a species are doing to the very planet that sustains us. it’s excrutiatingly sad and really makes me feel totally helpless. people in power are making decisions that will affect our entire planet and future of the world as we sit by and watch and say “what a shame.” i, for one, am starting to get completely outraged, especially with the recent oil spill. it makes me sick to my stomach. i can’t sit by idly any longer. i’m not sure what i’ll do, but i expect some sort of activism. this goes beyond just changing what we eat. we need to change our thinking. thanks for the thought provoking post!

I’m glad you feel that way. Most people are just turning their heads on BIG problems like this.
